About the Author
Karen Scott Barss is a Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) who holds an MA in Integrative Studies, specializing in spirituality, the arts, and healing. She has been a nurse educator at Saskatchewan Polytechnic’s Saskatoon Campus for over 30 years, after nursing in acute and community mental health care settings for a decade. She is also a spiritual director/companion and writer with a focus on holistic healing. Much of her lyrical writing has emerged from her personal healing experiences. She has developed T.R.U.S.T.: An Affirming Model for Inclusive Spiritual Care and The W.H.O.L.E. Care Framework for Integrative Health Care, Education, and Leadership. She also has developed and taught two interprofessional electives for the Saskatchewan Collaborative Bachelor of Science in Nursing (SCBScN) program: Spirituality and Health and Integrative Health Care. Additionally, she has been passionate about teaching the SCBScN course: Leadership and Influencing Change and co-facilitating communities of practice in support of truth, reconciliation and decolonization.
