Welcome to Physical Assessment Essentials for Health Sciences.

Physical assessment is a fundamental skill required in the field of health science. This e-book is ideally suited for various users, including students, preceptors, or any other practicing provider interested in physical assessment and examination skills.

The purpose of this resource is to provide evidence-informed content that can be accessed in multiple formats (e.g., print, audio, video).  This e-book focuses on physical assessment knowledge and techniques typically used by nurses, physicians, paramedics and other medical professionals. 

The e-book is presented in standard narrative format and organized by body systems. Each system is presented in the following format:  

  1. Body system introduction and learning objectives
  2. Anatomy and Physiology review
  3. System-specific focused physical assessment including a video and printable resources
  4. Case study review and check your knowledge activity
  5. A chapter summary with additional resource links
  6. References

This resource will assist in reducing overall costs for students and enrich its users’ teaching and learning experience by providing resources that promote flexibility and interactivity. This Physical Assessment OER is ideally suited to various users, including students, preceptors, and any health care professional interested in physical assessment and examination skills.
