This is a pilot project to explore the efficacy of Pressbooks toward the creation of e-books to deaf learners. The research project undertakes several strands of inquiry in order to develop a proposed theoretical framework that would guide the creation of e-books with the Pressbooks platform.

The text has been modified to focus on the role of the special educator. As you read through this eBook you will see many references to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). In the U.S., the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) is a special education law that mandates regulation for students with disabilities in order to protect their rights as students and the rights of their parents.

This book has been designed to assist teachers who wish to use literature to promote inclusion of people with disabilities in all aspects of life. The Guide consists of two parts. Part 1 is a rubric for evaluating how short stories, books, poems, TV programs, movies, digital media, and other forms of literature portray characters with disabilities. Part 2 of is a curriculum guide with learning objectives, lesson activities, and strategies for outcome evaluation. The curriculum guide is a resource for teachers who wish to design lessons using literature to teach about disabilities.

This book was developed to support the Granite State College introductory courses EDU 617 and 717, Students with Disabilities. Chapters 1-11 are developed to align with the disability summary assignments. Each of these concise chapters explains the corresponding section of the disability summary template. Chapters 12-23 provide an introduction to each of the 13 IDEA disabilities.
