About This Guide

Last Reconciled with BCCampus Guide: Feb. 20/24

Welcome to the Saskatchewan Polytechnic Open Education OER by Discipline Directory. This support resource lists a broad range of open textbooks and open educational resources (OER) organized by academic programs available at Saskatchewan Polytechnic. OER are teaching, learning, and research resources that, through permissions granted by the copyright holder, allow others to use, distribute, keep, or make changes to them.

This is an ongoing resource to which information will be updated as needed. Each chapter includes a “Last update” posted at the top of the page and, because it is changed frequently, ISBNs are not provided for this guide in accordance with the ISBNs’ User Manual.

Purpose

This guide was inspired by the wonderful work completed by BCcampus as they created a similar directory for their stakeholders. We are grateful to them for providing us with such a great example to work from.

The version of the guide presented here was developed to primarily highlight quality open textbooks and organize them so that Sask Polytechnic faculty can easily locate resources in their disciplines or subject areas. Although this is a good start, we are far from having a complete list and will be regularly updating this resource as we find additional, suitable materials to include. As this guide evolves, other OER — case studies, courses, games, simulations, videos, and more — may also be evaluated and added.

The guide parallels the academic structure of the Polytechnic to assist faculty in finding resources relevant to their course areas. ,

To locate materials, users may browse the Contents or use the search box located in the top-right of each page in the online version to locate a specific subject.

We invite you to notify us if you discover a valuable OER within or related to your discipline. Please complete the following form to make your contribution.

We hope that Sask Polytechnic faculty and instructors will find this guide helpful as they consider the options available for quality, open textbooks for their courses.

Note: Materials added to this directory are added “as is.” See the Disclaimer statement for more information.
