This course introduces the hospitality industry as a single, interrelated industry composed of food and beverage, travel and tourism, lodging, meeting and planning events, recreation and leisure,recreational entertainment, and eco and heritage tourism.

Introduces students to principles of sustainable tourism. Instruments for sustainable tourism development are examined in case studies (international, national, regional, and local). Methods and techniques that reconcile the different interests are discussed and applied in various contexts: urban vs. rural areas developed vs. less economically developed countries. Students gain an understanding of their role as leaders in managing a sustainable tourism business while addressing global sustainability issues such as poverty, climate change, globalization/localization, and environmental degradation.

Cultural Heritage Tourism Event Planning and Management  by various (CC BY 4.0).

This text explores the core principles of event planning and management as it specifically relates to cultural heritage tourism, demonstrating the principles through the case study of three existing cultural heritage festivals. Student will learn the core principles of event planning and management by examining three different real world case studies and exploring a cultural heritage tourism event of the student’s choice and writing an event management plan for this cultural heritage tourism event. The student will learn the core principles in planning and managing a cultural heritage tourism site or event through the course readings and the exploration and evaluation of an actual cultural heritage tourism site or event as a case study.

This textbook is an introduction to the tourism and hospitality industry in British Columbia, and is written with a first year college and university audience in mind. It is a collaborative work with input from educators, industry leaders, employers, and past graduates of BC’s tourism and hospitality management programs. All chapters have been reviewed by experts in the field. Each chapter is organized thematically moving from a global, then national, and finally provincial context. Chapters contain “Spotlight On” boxes that highlight an organization, business, or other key component and “Take a Closer Look” features that encourage further reading on particular subjects. Key terms, exercises and case studies can be found at the end of each chapter.

This book, published by MDPI Books, collects contributions about the marketing of destinations and the marketing management of companies and tourism organizations from a sustainable tourism perspective. The studies highlighted analyze the marketing strategies adopted by tourism companies and institutions or tourist destinations in order to manage visitors in a sustainable manner, promote the destination in marginal areas, promote territorial balance, or analyze the effect or tourism on the consumption of local products and the economic development of host communities.
