This textbook focuses on breaking down medical terms into their word parts, pronouncing medical terms, and learning the meaning of medical terms within the context of introductory anatomy and physiology. This resource is targeted for health office administration and health services students in the first year of their college programs. It includes a student companion webbook and interactive colouring book.

This textbook begins with a focus on the practice of breaking down medical terms into their component parts. This is practiced through the beginning of the book in order to develop a solid foundation on medical term parts, their meaning and how to understand the full meaning behind medical terminology as a whole. The OER then continues onto the use of abbreviations, anatomy and physiology, body systems, common tests and procedures and finishes with content focusing on medical professionals in health care. This OER serves to provide the basic knowledge necessary to work in the health care setting.

The target audience for this textbook are dual enrollment students. Dual enrollment is the opportunity for a student to be enrolled in high school and college at the same time. This book offers students the ability to learn basic medical terminology to prepare them for education and a profession in the medical field.
